The art of Where the Sunrise Begins

In the spirit of this fantastic weather and the approach of the spring solstice, I am pleased to announce our lovely project, a hardcover picture book, Where the Sunrise Begins.

Simon & Schuster invited me to illustrate the elegant words of author, Douglas Wood, (of Old Turtle) and the project has just been completed. It will be released April 26th, 2010 for publication, May 18th, 2010 for the bookshelves!.

Author, Doug Wood has achieved a remarkably inspired text and I am very pleased to have found a visual arch to compliment his words. I hope you will agree.

I am hoping that you might consider Where the Sunrise Begins for someone who is learning to understand their own personal gifts as a unique individual, and is preparing to share with a world full of potential. You might consider it as a subject for a spring discussion in your classroom, or perhaps to usher in the summer.

Where the Sunrise Begins is listed on page 100 of the Simon & Schuster Summer 2010 catalog.

Other information can be found on the Simon and Schuster and Jacketflap websites. Since I am not allowed to post urls on this blog, you can also take a look at much of my previous work and listings at Parsons the New School for Design and Pratt Institute.

I have shared my books and the art of book illustration in many venues on the east coast, primarily Westchester and the New York City area. Venues have included Montessori schools, primary grades, high school art classes and colleges for undergrads and master classes, museums, libraries, bookstores and book fairs dedicated to the art of the picture book. I am available for visits and will be happy to tailor a workshop or presentation specifically for your audience. Once a book is shared, presentations include; original art, a comprehensive look at the process of illustrating a book, and on occasion, a hands - on workshop which focuses on the content of the book discussed.

I hope to hear from you.

So happy to see signs of spring!

Wendy
